No tsunami threat after earthquake in Queensland’s central outback

A minor earthquake has rattled Queensland’s Central Outback but poses no tsunami threat, the Bureau of Meteorology assured.

The 4.8-magnitude quake was recorded by Geoscience Australia inland between Townsville and Mackay at about 1pm, at a depth of ten kilometres.

Those up to 144km away from the epicentre were estimated to have been able to feel the quake.

The Joint Australian Tsunami Warning Centre said there was no threat to the nation as a result.
