Watchhouse officer suspended after death in custody of Aboriginal woman Aunty Sherry
An officer has been suspended after an Aboriginal woman died in police custody in the Brisbane watchhouse.
The body of the 49-year-old, known as Aunty Sherry, was found in her cell about 6am on September 10.
Queensland Police Service Assistant Commissioner Brian Codd said while the coroner found she died of natural causes, “decisive action” had been taken to suspend a watchhouse officer until the outcome of the investigation was known.
