Vital vaccines may be spoiled after power outage
More than a dozen north Queensland medical centres are set to discard vital flu and childhood vaccines after power outages potentially spoiled their stockpiles.
The vaccines are well within their use by dates but may be unsafe to administer because of a 24-hour blackout caused when severe Tropical Cyclone Niran swept through the region earlier this week, a medical centre spokeswoman said.
As a result of the blackout, refrigerators holding the medicines may have stopped running, bringing the vaccines up past their ideal storage…
