Two children hospitalised in separate near drownings at Gold Coast, Townsville

A child is critical and another has been hospitalised following separate near drownings on the Gold Coast and far north Queensland on New Year’s Eve.
The sudden incidents come less than a week after Queensland paramedics issued a plea for parents to watch their kids this holiday season, following an “alarming” number of near drownings across the state in December alone.
Of the 65 reports of near drownings, nearly half of them involved children under the age of 12.
