Traffic chaos on M1 as police close both lanes

Traffic has been at a standstill in both directions on the M1 after police were forced to shut down the freeway following an incident about halfway between Brisbane and the Gold Coast.
Police were called to an incident around 11.15am near exit 35 on the M1 at Beenleigh.
It took police about 45 minutes to bring the situation under control.
Overall, though, northbound motorists were experiencing delays of up to 50 minutes, while southbound vehicles were less affected with 20-minute delays being experienced.
