Total fire ban issued for six areas

Hot and dry conditions have prompted a total fire ban for parts of southeast Queensland including the Gold Coast.
The ban applies to the local government areas of the Gold Coast, Logan, Scenic Rim, Ipswich, Locker Valley and Somerset from Sunday until Monday.
“There’s going to be challenging fire conditions because it’s hot, quite dry and humidity is down to 20 per cent,” Rural Fire Service Superintendent Alan Gillespie said on Sunday.
Conditions would also be windy through to Monday, he said.
“It’s drier today it was this time last year when we had some bad fires,” Mr Gillespie said.
He urged people to use their common sense when going out into the bush and working outside, particularly when mowing and slashing.
