Queensland road toll spike
A teenager has become the fourth person to die on Queensland’s roads in the past 48 hours as the state’s road toll disturbingly climbs above 260.
The 19-year-old was killed after being stuck by another vehicle after he pulled over and exited his ute in north Queensland, police said.
Queensland’s road toll before the weekend stood at 261, 44 more than the 2019 total.
A QPS spokesman said the latest tragedy will be added after the weekend.
The sudden spike comes after deaths on the state’s roads had been steadily in decline.
