Police arrest 48 schoolies, toolies
During a week of unruly beach parties which lead to a popular beach being closed for cleaning, police were forced to make 48 arrests linked to Noosa’s unofficial Schoolies.
Thousands of high school graduates ditched the traditional Gold Coast after the cancellation of official Schoolies celebrations and flocked to the north coast instead, catching locals and other holiday makers off guard.
Up to 5000 young people packed the beach each night for unofficial “beach parties”.
Despite the fact there were no organised Schoolies events, Superintendent Jason Overlands said police had only 48 arrests over the “Schoolies” period, instead favouring preventive measures, issuing at least 1200 move on orders.
