People in Happy Valley warned to leave immediately

A “leave immediately” bushfire warning has been issued for a major Fraser Island tourist village as worsening conditions threaten the area.

The Fraser Island fire has been burning for more than seven weeks, and razed through at least 50 per cent of the world-heritage listed site.

There are now three warnings active for the island, with Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advising people at Happy Valley township, on the island’s east coast, to leave immediately and head south to Eurong Resort.
