Overseas labour shortage causes fruit, vegie production to fall, prices to rise

Australians could soon be paying 30 per cent more for their fruit and vegetables, as severe farm labour shortages drive a massive fall in horticultural production. New statistics reveal prices of summer vegetables, stone fruits, pome fruits such as pears and apples, and table grapes are forecast to increase in price between 7 and 29 per cent in 2021.
Fruit production is forecast to drop by as much as 17 per cent this year and vegetable production by around 2 per cent.
