Manunda man, 22, charged with stabbing cop

A senior ranking police officer has reassured tourists and locals that Cairns is a safe place after a man was charged with stabbing a cop at a local shopping centre.
The 22-year-old man is alleged to have stabbed the officer at Cairns Central shopping centre, the largest in north Queensland, on Tuesday afternoon.
The officer was conducting a foot patrol around 2.20pm when he crossed paths with the man at the shopping centre, police say.
It was during a conversation between the pair that the alleged stabbing took place.
