Helicopter crashes in north Queensland: Pilot dead
An elderly pilot has died after the wreckage of a missing helicopter was found in a creek bed in north Queensland.
Rescuers spotted the wreckage around 11.30am on Friday in a creek bed off Pretty Plains Camden Park Road in Porcupine, some 250 southwest of Townsville.
The pilot, an 84-year-old man, was found dead at the scene, police said.
The Australian Maritime Safety Authority had begun searching for the R22 helicopter late on Thursday after it failed to reach its destination.
