First homebuyer affordability best on record but likely to be ‘short-lived’
Affordability of first homes has improved to the best on record, according to the latest national first homebuyer affordability index.All states reported falls over the September 2020 quarter, although New South Wales unsurprisingly remains the least affordable of all the states, a reflection of the high-priced Sydney housing market.
Victoria led the housing price drop, down 6.5 per cent, followed closely by South Australia which dropped 6.2 per cent and Tasmania which fell by 5.8 per cent.
