Unemployment is shaping up to become a hot-ticket issue in the upcoming state election after Queensland recorded the highest unemployment rate in the nation as the COVID-19 economic fallout continues.
New ABS figures show a record 234,000 Queenslanders, or 8.8 per cent of the population, are out of work, of which 111,000 have lost their jobs in the last year.
In the past month alone, 31,700 Queenslanders have joined the jobless queue.
