Bushfire emergency: Cooktown residents evacuated
An emergency warning has been issued for a large, dangerous and uncontrolled bushfire threatening Cooktown in Far North Queensland.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advised at 6pm the blaze was travelling on both sides of Oaky Creek Road, saying leaving immediately was the safest option as it would soon be too dangerous to drive.
The fire is in the vicinity of Ironwood Ave and surrounding streets including Poison Creek Road, Solander Road, Lee Road, Flaggy Road and Minke Road.
