Australian sharemarket ‘takes breather’ after recent gains, energy stocks lower

The Australian sharemarket lost ground on Thursday, taking a breather from strong gains earlier this month, while an oil price plunge weighed on energy stocks.The benchmark S&P/ASX200 index closed 0.3 per cent lower at 6174 while the All Ordinaries Index dipped 0.4 per cent to 6384.
CommSec analyst Steve Daghlian said the market had the second worst tumble of the month, down 1.5 per cent in morning trade, before clawing back some of the losses.
