Australian sharemarket powers to fresh 13-month highs with fifth straight day of gains

The Australian sharemarket powered to a fresh 13-month high after a five-day winning streak, with the benchmark index not far from pre-COVID record levels.The S&P/ASX200 broke through 7000 points for the first time since February 24 last year before settling back to finish 1.02 per cent stronger at 6998.8.
CommSec analyst James Tao said the index was just 2.8 per cent away from its pre-pandemic record high.
