AFL 2020: Isaac Heeney suffers season-ending injury

Sydney Swans star Isaac Heeney is done for 2020. The Swans confirmed on Monday Heeney suffered a serious ankle injury in the Swans’ loss to Richmond on Sunday and he will miss the rest of the season as he recovers from surgery.
“Heeney will require surgery after scans revealed he has suffered a dislocation and ruptured the medial ligament in his ankle,” the club said.
Heeney rolled his ankle in a tackle after earlier suffering a heavy knock to his head in an ugly bump from Tigers grand final hero Marlion Pickett.
In a huge blow for the club — already suffering from an extensive injury list — midfield maestro Josh Kennedy will also miss six weeks with a knee injury.
The club confirmed Kennedy has ruptured the media ligament in his knee, but has been able to avoid surgery.
According to reports, Heeney was booked in for surgery on Monday.
The Daily Telegraph’s Ben Horne on Monday described the loss of Heeney and Kennedy as a “crisis” for the club.
Richmond coach Damien Hardwick on Sunday labelled his team’s dour win over Sydney as a “horrendous game of football”.
“There’s no doubt about that. It was hard to watch, it was hard to play, it was incredibly frustrating.
“Unfortunately it’s sometimes how games pan out. You have a lot of players in one D50, they can’t get out and we can’t score. I think we had 50 odd inside 50s for what was it, four or five goals. Which is farcical in nature really.”
