Perth’s rental market heats up, but some are being left out in the cold – WAtoday
The lower vacancy rate means fewer houses available for rent, leaving people like 60-year-old Julie Petagna contemplating sleeping rough because she can’t find somewhere to live.
“We spend all our evenings applying and fitting in spare time to go to viewings.
“It feels surreal. We are mystified.”
Ms Petagna said she had 20 years of good rental references and her family all worked and held their jobs for a long time, but she suspected they were being passed over because their work was on a casual basis.
“I’m 60 years old. Home has always been very important to me and now I have a choice of living in other people’s homes as a guest or sleeping in my car,” she said.
