Dementia warning: The personality change that may be an early sign of the brain condition – Express
DEMENTIA can affect the frontotemporal lobes in the brain, found behind the forehead. This area deals with behaviour, problem-solving, planning and the control of emotions. So when dementia takes over the brain, there may be a slight personality change.
When nerve cells in the frontal and/or temporal lobes (on either side of the brain) die due to frontotemporal dementia, chemical pathways become lost. This can result in a personality adjustment.
The Alzheimer’s Society noted that frontotemporal dementia is sometimes called Pick’s disease.
During the early stages, people close to the unbeknown dementia sufferer may notice subtle changes in personality.
