Australia’s small yet crucial part in the mission to find life on Mars – Brisbane Times
NASA’s latest mission to Mars pierced the clear blue sky over Florida last Thursday. On board: the rover Perseverance, packed with scientific instruments … and a tiny piece of Australian rock.
“My life moved on,” Dr Rey said. On Sunday, he got a message from a colleague. ” ‘Hey Patrice, I forgot to tell you, but our sample is on the way to Mars.’ I almost fell off my chair.”
The rocks red colour indicates the presence of oxygen and life. NASA hopes to find the same on Mars.
“3.5 billion years ago there was water on Mars there was evidence of running rivers and lakes. If life had already emerged on Earth at that time, the chances are life could have also emerged on Mars,” said Dr Rey…
