Meat plant workers back on the job after walk-off over virus outbreak – The Sydney Morning Herald
Cold store staff at major meat plant in Melbourne’s west return to work after refusing to start shift amid concerns over coronavirus cases linked to the plant.
In a safety notice sent to JBS, the workers said that “without safe systems of work and without adequate information, instruction and training” there would be a “serious and immediate threat to health or safety, namely a high threat and degree of risk to the COVID-19 contagion”.
Susie Allison, Victorian secretary of the United Workers Union, said staff had gone back to work after constructive talks with senior management. She said JBS had agreed to changes to work practices.
