The Covid-19 vaccines are designed to be injected into the upper arm muscle to elicit an immune response while minimising side effects at the injection site.
By now most people are familiar with how the Covid-19 vaccine is typically administered: a quick jab to the upper arm. While most vaccines are given in the muscle, also known as an intramuscular injection, some vaccines, like the rotavirus vaccine, are given orally. Others are administered just beneath the skin, or subcutaneously. For instance, measles, mumps and rubella vaccines. However, many others are given in the muscle.
