ASX fades amid rising concerns of second COVID-19 wave
Local sharemarkets dipped on Wednesday as fresh fears of a second COVID-19 wave were realised following a jump in the number of Victorian cases. The benchmark S&P/ASX 200 index fell 81 points, or 1.3 per cent, to 6075.1, while the broader All Ordinaries index fell 76 points, or 1.2 per cent, to 6192.6.
The Australian dollar gained 0.15 per cent to $US71.43.
Wednesday’s market slump came despite a 2.4 per cent rise in retail turnover that showed the Australian economy could be normalising.
