Clive Palmer to pay $1.5 million after losing Twisted Sister copyright fight – Sydney Morning Herald
The Federal Court rejected the businessman’s claims that he had written his own lyrics and used the melody of an 18th century hymn in political advertisements.
Justice Katzmann said this evidence appeared to take everyone else in the virtual courtroom by surprise.
His claims were at odds with evidence a video producer approached Universal on Mr Palmers behalf in 2018 to licence the Twisted Sister hit.
Mr Palmer had also claimed the hits melody was a rip off of the 18th century Christmas carol O Come, All Ye Faithful and was not protected by copyright law.
