Australian Uyghurs throw support behind Senator’s bill to ban imports from Xinjiang

Representatives of Australia’s Uyghur community have spoken out in support of proposed legislation to ban imports from the Xinjiang region of China in response to claims of forced labour.

- The Senate committee was addressed by three leaders of Australia’s Uyghur community
- They said imposing sanctions on China was both the moral thing to do and in Australia’s economic interests
- The Chinese government has denied the claims of forced labour and human rights abuses in Xinjiang
