Sydney skies to be controlled by Melbourne as air traffic controller jobs relocated

Aircraft flying in the busy skies over Greater Sydney could soon be taking directions from air traffic controllers almost 900 kilometres away.

Airservices Australia has confirmed it is considering a cost-saving measure that would involve closing Sydney’s terminal control unit, which handles planes within a 100km radius of Sydney, and relocating its staff to a centralised hub at Melbourne’s Tullamarine Airport.
