Silhouetted against the sky, flying foxes heading out for a feed at dusk can be a peaceful and beautiful sight.
But for some, being too close to a large colony of these native animals can be a horrendous experience.
Take Batemans Bay resident Danielle Smith, whose town was visited by more than 100,000 grey-headed flying foxes in 2016.
She told the ABC at the time that the noise, smell and droppings from the colony brought people to breaking point.
