Brisbane council to hand care of Anzac Square to state
“It continues the commitment we showed with our contribution of more than $14 million to the 2019 Anzac Square restoration, when the heritage sandstone was enhanced, historic statues and trees were protected, ponds were repaired, and undercroft galleries were upgraded.”
The council has been responsible for Anzac Square for 88 years.
Lord mayor Adrian Schrinner said council was supportive of the proposal to establish an independent statutory body, the Queensland Veterans’ Council, to look after the square.
“We are keen to continue with our involvement in the protection of Anzac Square through a representative on the Queensland Veterans’ Council,” he said.
