PA Hospital ward must be cleaned again after virus remnants found
“Engineering consultants are engaged in the functional reviews, and maintenance reports indicate all isolation rooms were functioning to their design specification.”
All patients have been moved out of the ward, which remains closed for the investigation into how the infections occurred.
Public health expert, QUT emeritus professor Gerard FitzGerald, said the particles found after the first deep clean were likely viral fragments, similar to what was being found in wastewater testing.
“So they’re probably not infectious, they’re basically viral debris,” Emeritus Professor FitzGerald said.
“They keep finding that sort of thing in sewage, and it’s not live virus, it’s just bits of protein, so it’s likely not a risk.
