“We need to maintain those lockdowns for 14 more days until those vaccination levels are increased. Until we see a higher density of vaccination in aged care, then those lockdowns will need to continue to be applied if, and when, we have outbreaks,” he said.

Chief Health Officer Jeannette Young said in Brisbane, only 56 of 186 aged-care facilities had been vaccinated by the Commonwealth.

“That’s not enough. And it’s only just rolled out, so the protection is not enough,” Dr Young said.
