The rejection of the offers has placed additional pressure on the Tabcorp board which now has to decide whether to split the business or incur the wrath of shareholders….
To appoint a new chief executive and then pursue a break-up of the company would represent something of a bait and switch.
A decision to demerge would be a big move for Tabcorps new chairman Steven Gregg, who replaced long-time chair Paula Dwyer in January.
But it may not ultimately be Greggs choice. The chorus of major shareholders pushing for the demerger is growing louder.
