Andrew Forrest to build $1 billion green power station in Port Kembla – The Australian Financial Review
Mining billionaire Andrew Forrest says he will build a gas and hydrogen-fuelled plant at Port Kembla to supply the state with clean energy.
Fortescue is eyeing first green hydrogen production in 2023 and Dr Forrest wants one of its first customers to be the Port Kembla import terminal, which would eventually drop LNG, as would the dual-fuel power station.
Dr Forrest said the new facility would be a more than adequate replacement for the ageing, coal-fired Liddell power station in the NSW Hunter Valley as he warned unions, political parties and the Morrison government to realise that coals days were either over or numbered.
