ASX rises, materials ‘conspicuously absent’ from rally and analysts tip ASX200 returning above 7000

The Australian sharemarket gained ground on Tuesday after a positive lead from Wall Street, but materials stocks weighed on the market.The S&P/ASX200 finished 0.8 per cent higher at 6827.1 while the All Ordinaries Index rose 0.85 per cent to 7079.
Wealth management firm Ord Minnett said the major US indices closed at record highs for a third consecutive trading session amid growing optimism over the budding economic recovery and progress on COVID-19 vaccines.
