Labor landslide across regional WA sees second Kimberley-based MP and first Aboriginal MLC elected

Western Australia’s landslide backing of the McGowan Government looks to have completely re-shaped the electoral map in the remotest parts of the state.

While counting is continuing, Labor has secured an unprecedented 57 per cent of the vote in Mining and Pastoral, the Legislative Council district covering the Kimberley, Pilbara, Gascoyne and Goldfields.

It’s a result that will see the district — a target of critics who say the district gives an unfair level of representation to its residents — send four Labor representatives to Perth for the first time.
