The government indicated on Friday that it had little interest in pursuing a broader inquiry, with a spokeswoman for Gaming Minister Melissa Horne saying pubs and clubs posed a lower money laundering risk than casinos.
But the Alliance for Gambling Reform says the Victorian royal commission should also look into whether pubs and clubs across Melbourne and the state were being exploited by criminals and tax cheats seeking to launder their tainted money.
