Townsville siege fizzles, Qld police

An eight-hour police stand-off with a wanted man, alleged by neighbours to be armed, fizzled out when officers stormed a Townsville house to find nobody inside.
More than 30 police swarmed a Clarke Street home in Garbutt about 11am on Thursday after it was reported a 30-year-old man had threatened his neighbours with a gun during a dispute.
Police cordoned off surrounding streets, declaring an emergency situation for Douglas, Clarke, Chandler, Dearness and Ramsay streets.
