Sydney news: State government ‘cash grab’ as NSW speed camera fines up $3m on last January’s figures

Speed camera revenue up

State government revenue from speed cameras has leapt to nine times the prior rate, after signage was scrapped that showed a motorist was approaching a mobile speed camera.

Revenue from January was up more than $3.4 million from just $382,000 the previous January, according to Government data.

The number of fines issued in January of this year was 14,688 compared to just 1,956 fines issued for January last year.

Aggregate figures from November to January show mobile speed camera revenue is more than $7 million.

Shadow Minister for Roads John Graham has described it as “a cash grab on a grand scale”.
