Townsville woman, child die in collision Flinders Highway

A woman and a young child have died after colliding with a truck on a north Queensland highway.
Shortly after 7am on Tuesday, a Holden Barina travelling south collided with a heavy vehicle heading in the opposite direction, about 40 km east of Charters Towers.
Early investigations suggest the smaller car veered onto the wrong side of the road before the collision, killing the 49-year-old Garbutt woman and an eight-year-old girl inside.
The truck driver, 40, was taken by air to Townsville University Hospital with leg injuries.
