SA Government to make changes to reporting practices after abuse of teenagers in state care
The South Australian Government has accepted all six recommendations of a review into its child protection department’s reporting practices.
Child Protection Minister Rachel Sanderson ordered the review after she was last year blindsided by news that two teenagers had fallen pregnant while in state care.
Former District Court Judge Paul Rice has made six recommendations, including setting up a ‘Significant Incident Reporting Unit’ within the department, and a program to educate staff on reporting obligations.
Deputy Premier Vickie Chapman said legislation to implement the changes would be introduced to Parliament within 30 days.
