Some Queenslanders have shivered through the coldest morning of the year and forecasters say it will stay for the next few days.

As a low pressure system brings strong winds and freezing temperatures to the sunshine state, Roma – 430 kilometres northwest of Brisbane – was the coldest place in the state this morning, dropping to a frosty -1.3 degrees on Tuesday.

Hughenden recorded its coldest start to the day since last year, coming in at 3.1 degrees overnight.
