New Acland Oakey mine expansion back in Land Court
Opponents of a controversial planned mine expansion in Queensland’s south west have voiced their outrage at a mining giant’s new application before the Land Court.
The Oakey Coal Action Alliance (OCAA) has been locked in a legal battle for years over the planned expansion of the New Acland coal mine, more than 180km west of Brisbane, but the stoush is back to square one.
New Acland Coal, a subsidiary of miner New Hope Group, has sought approval for the project since 2007 but it has faced fierce opposition from the Oakey-based group.
