A WHO team is about to leave China after a coronavirus probe. Here’s what they’ve been doing
An independent mission to the Chinese city of Wuhan to investigate the origins of the COVID-19 pandemic is drawing to a close.
The expert group, appointed by the World Health Organization (WHO), was sent to gather data and search for clues as to where the virus originated and how it spread in the city where it was first detected.
The team will wrap up its fact-finding mission on Wednesday.
China has tried to suggest that the virus originated elsewhere. In announcing the experts’ visit last month, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian said: “The tracing of the virus origin will most likely involve multiple countries and localities.”
