Man who went to emergency department ‘to save his own life’ died after attempted suicide in waiting room toilets

A man who attempted suicide in the waiting room toilets of the Royal Hobart Hospital’s (RHH) emergency department would not have subsequently died if appropriate procedures had been able to be followed, a coroner has found.

It was an early morning in July 2016 when Joseph Aaron Lattimer, 37, called triple-0 saying he had a “high risk of self-harm”.

He told the paramedics he had a history of depression, anxiety, traumatic brain injury, short-term memory…
