Child bitten at Orchid Beach

A dingo has bitten a boy on Fraser Island, leaving “significant bite wounds”, according to Queensland Environment.

Paramedics and rangers were called to Orchid Beach on the island, in the state’s south-east, about 9.20am on Thursday.

The Department of Environment said in a tweet that “two wongaris [dingoes] were involved” and that responders were giving first aid to the patient.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman said the primary school-aged child had four puncture wounds from a dingo bite.

Tourists are warned not to feed or approach dingoes on Fraser Island, also known as K’gari.
