World Cup bid a factor in Australian offer to host Lions tour – Sydney Morning Herald
Rugby Australia is hoping an invitation to host the Lions-Springboks series will help secure Australia the votes to land the 2027 Rugby World Cup.
While there is almost no financial upside to be gained by bringing the tour to Australia, RA sources have told the Herald that Australias bid to host the 2027 Rugby World Cup will be a key part of their pitch to federal and state governments to approve the tour, which would see the entry of several hundred players, officials, staff and broadcasters.
If Australia provides a safe and lucrative lifeline for the Lions tour, RA hopes the goodwill will be returned by the all-important Home Unions when…
