How does Donald Trump get back on Facebook? Here’s who decides
Donald Trump had more than 88 million followers on Twitter and 35 million on Facebook but, after attacks on the US Capitol in January, he was blocked from using both accounts.
It brought a chorus of opinions on both sides — some saying it went against free speech values, others saying it was too little, too late.
Even Australia’s leaders weighed in, with Treasurer Josh Frydenberg saying he “felt pretty uncomfortable” with Mr Trump being removed from these platforms, but recognised these were decisions from private companies.
For Facebook, the final call doesn’t rest with the public or even CEO Mark Zuckerberg, but the recently created ‘oversight board’.
Here’s how it will work.
