Ms Wright’s passion grew so much, she even opened her own store, which she later sold in 2007.

Now she is one of five like-minded women who create quilts and blankets for children in hospital with cancer and, for about four hours a week through the Salvation Army, for children affected by domestic violence.

“They live at home with absolutely nothing, so we use bright colours for the children to brighten their little lives up,” she said.

Ms Wright said they made more than 300 items a year for the organisations.

“We’ve been doing it for years and years,” she said.
