American sprinter beats Usain Bolt’s 200m world record – only to find out he ran just 185m – GIVEMESPORT

Usain Bolt is commonly known as the fastest man on earth. 
His 100m and 200m world records, which stand at 9.58 seconds and 19.19 seconds, prove that. 
The Jamaican is one of the most decorated athletes of all time, winning eight Olympic gold medals and 11 World Athletic Championship golds. 
His 100m and 200m record times, set in Berlin in 2009, haven’t been beaten in over 11 years. 
But for a moment on Thursday, it looked like American sprinter Noah Lyles had shattered Bolt’s 200m world record, finishing the men’s 200m race at the Inspiration Games in 18.90 seconds. 
There was one problem though… the 22-year-old only ran 185m because of a blunder by the organisers. 
He was running alone in the US – as each competitor was simultaneously sprinting on a different track around the world – but it quickly became clear Lyles had started on the wrong line. 
Therefore, the distance he covered was only 185m, not the full 200m.

Imagine thinking you’d just set a WORLD RECORD, only to have it chalked off because the organisers set you up wrong. Heartbreaking. 
Given Lyles’ personal best is 19.50, it was quite hard to believe clocking in at 18.90 was anything other than a huge error. 
The American sprinter took to social media shortly after the event to react, tweeting:
