Miners sell elsewhere as China shuts door on Aussie copper – The Australian Financial Review
Miners are finding no shortage of demand for copper in other markets as trade figures show China has slapped an unofficial ban on imports of copper concentrate.
Australia is the world’s third-biggest supplier in a global industry where big mines in South America, including Chile’s Escondida mine, owned by BHP and Rio Tinto, operated at below full capacity last year.
Analysts expect government stimulus packages to drive copper demand at a time when established mines are facing grade and labour issues and discoveries few and far between.
